About the lab
Human Voice Content Lab is (for the moment) solely operated by me, Sean Ryan, a lifelong language nerd with 10+ years of experience doing content strategy and full-funnel content marketing for leading B2B brands.The seeds of Human Voice Content Lab were planted in 2020. I was heading up technical content marketing for the customer data platform mParticle when I noticed that most B2B content is bland, stilted, and written in a style that doesn't remotely resemble a human voice. The jargon, the fluff... it was everywhere, and this was before LLMs./nBecause this style of writing caused me physical discomfort to read, I worked hard to avoid writing it. I consciously honed a familiar, lively, human style of B2B writing that still achieved the level of authority and professionalism the context calls for.
After a while, I noticed something else. The pieces that were the most human and the least B2B-esque performed noticeably better. They got more engagement, more shares, and even ranked better.
